"AGCO Power unveils next-generation solutions for agricultural machinery
„AGCO Power“ a manufacturer of engines and drive systems for machinery, has unveiled a new generation of sustainable energy solutions to reduce emissions, increase efficiency and ensure the longevity of agricultural machinery. The company presented the innovations at the „Agritechnica 2025“ exhibition in Hannover, Germany.
This move by „AGCO Power“ makes it clear that the future of agricultural machinery depends not only on engine power or fuel type, but also on the ability to combine different energy sources and technologies.
„The future of agricultural energy lies in the smart synergy of different solutions. There is no one-size-fits-all path – a broad, flexible energy spectrum is needed, encompassing both next-generation internal combustion engines and electric solutions“ said Juha Tervala, CEO of „AGCO Power“.
New generation „CORE“ engine family
The most important news is the extension of the CORE engine line-up. The family includes three main models for a wide range of agricultural machinery sizes:
• CORE50 – 5.0 litre four-cylinder engine (used in the Fendt 500 Vario Gen4 and 600 Vario tractor series).
• CORE75 – 7.5-litre six-cylinder engine, used in Fendt 700 Vario Gen7 tractors.
• CORE80 – the newest and most powerful member of the line-up, an 8 litre diesel engine with a maximum power output of 252 kW (343 hp) and a torque of 1,680 Nm. The CORE80 features lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions and a high power to weight ratio. It is this engine that is planned to be the heart of the new Fendt 800 Vario Gen5 series.
The engines feature advanced combustion control systems, injection pressures in excess of 2000 bar and an optimised cooling circuit to maintain efficient operation even under high load conditions.
150 kWh battery concept – towards emission-free drive
Alongside the diesel engines, „AGCO Power“ has also introduced the all-new „Future Battery Concept“ – an electric drive module designed specifically for agricultural machinery.
This 150 kWh battery features a fast charging function that allows up to 80% of the battery to be charged in less than 40 minutes.
„AGCO Power“ says the solution paves the way for all-electric tractor concepts that will be able to carry out up to 70% of normal farm work without exhaust emissions. The technology is expected to be ready for series production within 5 to 7 years.
„Efficient and emission-free tractors will become commonplace sooner than many expect. Our concept shows that electric drive can be practical and reliable even in intensive farm conditions," commented Kari Aaltonen, Director of Engineering at „AGCO Power“.
CO₂ Calculator System
Another innovation is the CO₂ Calculator: an integrated digital system that allows real-time monitoring of fuel consumption and calculation of carbon footprint.
This system collects data directly from the engine control unit, recognises the type of fuel used and calculates emissions based on the type of activity. The information is transmitted to a cloud platform where it can be analysed and exported into ESG reports or supply chain documentation.
The solution is already being piloted by several European farms, including VERAVIS GmbH (Germany), which is evaluating the exact energy efficiency of its products and seeking sustainable production certificates.
