A bear has been captured by border guards of the Tverečius Border Guard in Ignalina district. It walked along the border with Belarus, did not scare away a passing VSAT SUV, crossed the Dysna River and slithered off into the interior of Lithuania.

On Monday morning, the bear was spotted by Tvereciai border guards through the border surveillance system at the place where the Dysna River flows from Lithuania into Belarus.

Further along the border, the river runs down the middle of the river. The bear came along the physical barrier on the Lithuanian side, and looked at the border bridge over the Dysna, which is patrolled by SSSS officers.

Then she took her time and walked deeper into Lithuania. A patrol vehicle from the Tverečius firewall passed right next to the bear, but the bear was not too frightened by the vehicle.

Soon after, the bear crossed the Dysna River in Lithuania, crossed the patrol path and disappeared inland. In addition to this case, the bear was also captured by the border guards of the same Tverečius and the neighbouring Puškiai checkpoints in the last 24 hours.

It is not possible to say with certainty whether it is one and the same beast that walks along the border with Belarus or even crosses it in this part of the Ignalina district. The 679 km long border with Belarus has been repeatedly crossed by SSSS officers in different districts of Lithuania in the past.
