Grazing - a necessity for restoring breeding sites of protected birds
Aukštaitija National Park hosted a workshop on "Extensive grazing – an indispensable tool for restoring breeding sites of protected birds", which provided an overview of the benefits of sustainable farming in sensitive protected areas. Experiences of conservation measures through livestock grazing in Aukštaitija National Park were also presented.
In the project „LIFE Farms for Birds“ we aim to establish close cooperation with the region's farmers in the name of conservation objectives. The activities demonstrate and promote sustainable farming practices, with the hope that we will eventually see higher populations of rare bird species in the managed meadows.
Nature conservationists shared practical advice with farmers in the region on how extensive grazing can reduce farm costs and increase farm productivity. They discussed where and what support can be sought in developing a nature-friendly farm.
