An hour-long horror film or a horse rescue operation at the farm
In the Ukmergė district, firefighters pulled out a horse stuck in a swamp. The Fire and Rescue Department reported that the accident happened in the village of Ratiškis, near Krikštėnai, in the Pivonija municipality. On arrival at the scene, the horse was stuck up to its neck. The animal was pulled out by joint efforts. Its owners, the farm „Brangiosios uogos“, shared the details of the rescue operation on social media.
Winter mornings on the farm have their own rituals. First – with the horses. Most of the time, they are both in the barn: a quiet, familiar place.
„But something was wrong that morning“, – the owners of „Brangiosios uogos“ farm say on social media.
„The barn is empty. Only Jasmine is in the pasture, standing in an unusual place. A strange feeling runs down her spine: has she escaped? Maybe something has happened? As we approach, she stands still, not a sound. But there is a rustling from the bushes. As the light shines, Peron's eyes flash along the ground, – – he writes „Precious Berries“.
„Then the horror movie began, lasting an hour (thank God, only an hour), the first call to the BPC, the conversation is short, we put the receiver down“, – say the farmers.„We run to the house, grab a rope, a chainsaw, short wide planks from the barn, the four-wheeler gets stuck for the fourth time, and we run back with all our stuff. We tuck the rope under Peron's armpits, pull it up a bit and tie it on a thicker branch, ok, we reduce the threat of drowning. We put the boards under the front legs, nothing happens, the ice water spits the boards out. I create a chainsaw, it snaps shut on the second pull, we cut the ice from the front and the shit saw snaps shut. We throw it to the side, continue pegging the planks underfoot, hang Peron's belly rope from the quad hook with our frozen hands and try to go forward a little at a time, which doesn't help Peron, but it doesn't sink him either.
From the church comes the first fire engine, followed by the second, as well as a cool neighbour with a serious tractor, picked up after a night shift at work. People jump up, put together a bunch of floodlights, say, OK, let's put the slings under the horse and try to crawl out together. We put those slings in, the water is icy with mud, our hands hurt to the point of nausea, valio – we're through. The firemen take over the sling, we put another one through, they cut the branches with their saw, we hang the sling behind the quad and start pulling together. Two firefighters sink to their knees in the same aquifer. They climb out, we right ourselves and pull again. Peron clings with his front legs, we continue pulling, his legs go numb, we don't give up, one – two – tryyys and we pull him out lying on the snow. We think for a moment about his condition, then the gentleman stands up and with all the ropes he goes across the pasture to the barn," the owners say.
The firemen don't catch the horse, they say, it's all right, bring the ropes when you get there and leave.
„We go to the barn, the platform is all icy, shivering with cold, because the sun is just rising, it is -22 outside. Okay, we need to warm up. We're dry, we're both back in the pasture“, – the farmers write about the successful rescue operation.
