A different approach to agriculture (VIDEO)
Stanislovas Steponavičius, a farmer in the Kaunas district, considers the decision he made eight years ago to farm more sustainably to be one of the best he has ever made. The rapeseed and wheat yields on his farm are impressive, reaching 4.77 tonnes and 10–11 tonnes per hectare respectively.
The secret is no mystery – the chosen technology preserves the soil, whilst the sown wheat varieties ‘Brigen’ and ‘Brencis’, bred by Latvian breeders, are also fertilised with organic fertilisers of Lithuanian origin – ‘Agrolinija S’, ‘Turbo’ and bone meal.
The result of all this is healthier soil, higher yields and lower production costs.
“Agrobitė play” visited S. Steponavičius’s farm and discussed the impressive results.
