Prices of raw milk in the EU and Lithuania rose in July and August

Following a nine-month decline in raw milk prices in the European Union (EU), they rose by 0.5 per cent in July this year to 42.05 cents per kilogram, whilst in August the price rose by a further 0.4 per cent to 42.22 cents per kilogramme, according to preliminary data from the European Commission’s Milk Market Observatory (MMO).

It is reported that a similar trend has been observed in Lithuania. In July, the price of raw milk rose by 1.76 per cent to 35.4 cents per kilogramme, whilst in August the preliminary price stood at 35.45 cents per kilogramme, 0.1 per cent higher than in July.

Despite the rise in prices, the price of raw milk in the EU in the last month of summer this year remained 9.4 per cent lower than the average for August over the past five years.

Milk collection in the EU was also 3.4 per cent higher in the first half of 2026 than in the same period a year earlier. However, Rabobank forecasts a decline in milk production in the second half of the year. 

According to the bank’s analysts, falling supply and rising production costs are likely to support an increase in raw milk prices in the autumn and winter of 2026.
