Ostrich farm to be set up in Ukmergė district
An ostrich farm is to be set up in the Ukmergė region. The Municipal Council will consider whether to approve the implementation of the project „Establishment and development of the public enterprise „World Giants“ within the framework of the local development strategy of the local action group of Ukmergė district.
The aim of the project, which was prepared by the Public Enterprise "World Giants", is to create a social business in a rural area. The aim is to establish a park for different species of ostrich in the village of Bareišiai, in the Šešuolių municipality, on an area of 14.67 hectares.
The plan is to renovate the building, adapt it for education and recreation, and create walking paths, a car park and ostrich enclosures in the outdoor area.
The project will provide new tourism services: education and excursions, entertainment, children's recreation camps, leisure activities in the nature, promoting physical activity and knowledge of nature. One job will also be created.
The project will be implemented with partners – the association Ukmergė Region Union of Disabled People, which will contribute with volunteer activities, the VšĮ Ukmergė Children's Day Care Centre, whose members will be introduced to the activities of the farm, and the community of the village of Liaušių, which will organise the opening ceremony.
The total estimated value of the project is EUR 177 780.
The project has already been granted 95% funding (excluding VAT) by order of the Director of the National Paying Agency for Ukmergė, which is €140,000.
The applicant will contribute to the project with funds for the purchase of poles (EUR 20 000), human resources for the organisation of events, free services for schoolchildren in the district, and available material resources.
The district municipality, which is a member of the Local Action Group of Ukmergė District and contributes in partnership to the implementation of the Local Development Strategy of the Local Action Group, is requested to contribute 5 % of the EUR 7 000 –. The promotion of economic vitality in rural areas is included as a priority measure in the Strategy.
