When it comes to keeping pets, specifically dogs, people are divided: there are those who believe that a dog should be kept in a room, sleep in bed with its owner, or even sit at the table together. The other part thinks that the dog should be loved, but its place – in a kennel or in an aviary. There are many opinions, but in any case, when a dog that has been raised, spent its days together and loved dies, there is only one solution – bury the carcass. Unfortunately, far from all people understand this simple truth.

 Do the humane thing

Rokiškis Sirena was contacted by a citizen of Rokiškis who was surprised by a discovery in the bush this morning: „I was walking along the path to the forest to search for leps and from far away in the forest I saw a bright blue bag shining in the dargana, dropped under a bush. As I approached, I looked – the back legs were sticking out. I thought it was a deer, but on inspection I realised that there was a dead dog in the bag... Nice, well cared for, like a breeding dog.

Walking along the cross-street of the Lake to the place where the dog's carcass, brought by the owner and left behind, was lying, the man reflected that people are heartless: they love and kiss their dog, but they can't even manage to bury it.

And they put it in a bag of tomatoes and throw it away under a bush.

„If they've already brought it here, wasn't it hard to bring a shovel and bury it? Probably difficult... Why bother: you brought it, you threw it away, and that's the trouble. My first thought was – I will bury it. But then I started to think that I might get into trouble myself, and I don't know who to call about the body. I decided to share the information with the journalists first," he smiled and assured that now that the fact is "on record", he will surely bury the dog that was dumped here.

The road – only a few people

When asked where the Lake Cross Road leads, on the side of which a beautiful, visible – well cared for female dog is lying, the man said that the road – is impassable and only goes into the yard of the farmhouse. However, the man assured him that there were no dogs in either of the two farmhouses on the road, so the dead pet – must have come from somewhere.

„These fields are full of grass-covered rubbish. People from the city used to bring everything here: tyres and household waste. When the dead-end sign was put up, fewer people drove by. But it turns out that they are still bringing this kind of rubbish. Of course, I don't know what happened to the dog – maybe it was sick and died, but it doesn't change the fact that it was brought here by someone and those who brought it failed to bury it, – the interlocutor sadly said, repeating over and over again that it was a pity for a beautiful dog.

In his farewell, the man reiterated that he would bury the unfortunate dog: „I'll do the humane thing, and you make this story public – maybe someone will recognise their dog and have some remorse“.  

Uses from common areas

Representatives of AB „Rokiškio komunalininkas“ commented that in the case of straws found in the common areas of Rokiškis, they are collected by the employees of AB „Rokiškio komunalininkas“ according to the contract with the town eldership.

According to the company's representatives, the residents of Rokiškis should report the found carcasses to the Rokiškis town ward.

The company does not currently provide any private services to residents for the disposal of carcasses.
