A barn in Birštonas district on fire, killing sheep and goats

A barn in Birštonas district caught fire on Friday night, killing sheep and goats, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) reported. According to the PRT, at 4.40 a.m. a report was received that a barn was on fire in the village of Matiešioniai, in Miško Street, with a large number of livestock inside. 

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the building was burning with open flames. During the fire, part of the building was burnt, as well as 16 sheep and 16 goats. 

24 sheep and 8 goats were rescued from the flames. Another barn attached to the building was saved. A farmer with a tractor helped with the rescue work.
