A BMW crashed into a river in Panevėžys: two bodies found
The bodies of the owner of the vehicle and a possible passenger were found at midday after a BMW crashed into the Nevėžis River in Panevėžys on Saturday.
„The owner of the car (born in 1995) was killed in the accident and his body was found on the Nevėžys River at 11:00. The body of the driver of the car was found in the river 1.2 km away from the accident site at 11.13 minutes," the Police Department said.
It is also reported that the body of a possible second man was found in the river after the water receded.
The Situation Coordination Unit of the PRT previously informed Elta that attempts were made to lower the water level at the place where the drowned car was found, so that divers could take over the rescue operation.
„For the time being, it is not possible to pull the car out due to the strong flow of the river. The dam has been closed upstream to slow down the river flow and water level. Thus, a water fall is expected in Panevėžys and preparations are being made for an operation to tow the car, a spokesman for the service said.
