Fuel cheaper this year than last year on bank holidays
This year, fuel in Lithuanian petrol stations is 3-4% or 4-5 cents per litre cheaper on holidays than at the same time last year, reports the Lithuanian Energy Agency (LEA).
However, average fuel prices have increased over the past week, with petrol rising by 0.8% and diesel by 0.7%. Compared to the average fuel prices in other EU countries, the average price of petrol in Lithuania is currently 15.3% lower than in other EU countries, while the average price of diesel is 8.2% lower.
According to the data of the Lithuanian Petrol Agency (LEA), on Monday, the average price of petrol at petrol stations in the country was EUR 1.4 per litre, while the average price of diesel reached EUR 1.44 per litre. Over the week, the difference between diesel and petrol prices decreased from EUR 0.04/l to EUR 0.039/l. By comparison, on 25 December 2023, the average price of petrol in Lithuania was €1.44/l, while the average price of diesel was €1.49/l.According to the agency, average petrol and diesel prices in other EU countries increased by 0.3% last week. Average petrol prices in Lithuania and Germany increased by 0.8% and 0.1% respectively during the week, while prices in Estonia, Latvia and Poland remained unchanged. In Poland, the average price of petrol is EUR 1.43/l, while in Estonia and Latvia the average price is EUR 1.6/l and EUR 1.57/l. Across all the comparable Baltic States and neighbouring countries, petrol prices are on average 0.8% to 2.7% lower than 12 months ago, the LEA notes.Diesel average prices in Lithuania and Poland increased by 0.7% and 0.1% respectively, while in Estonia, Latvia and Germany they remained unchanged. In Poland, the average price of diesel currently stands at EUR 1.45/l, while in Estonia and Latvia the average price is EUR 1.51/l and EUR 1.53/l. In all the Baltic countries and neighbouring countries compared, diesel is now 0.9% to 5.3% cheaper than twelve months ago, the agency said.In December, the wholesale price of petrol in Lithuania increased by EUR 0.02 per litre, while the price of diesel increased by EUR 0.01 per litre. In November, wholesale fuel prices in Lithuania increased by €0.01/l for petrol and €0.09/l for diesel. In October, the wholesale price of petrol increased by EUR 0.02 per litre and diesel by EUR 0.05 per litre.
