Grass fires in the Kėdainiai district have been recorded for the third day in a row, worrying both residents and firefighters. The latest incident on Thursday was registered in Truskava municipality.
Around 40 acres burnt
According to the Kaunas Fire Rescue Board, at 14:00, a fire broke out in the town of Truskava. At 14:32, a report of burning grass in the village of Dvariškių I was received. Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly controlled the flames, but the fire had already spread to an area of about 40 hectares.
Fire and chimney
On the same day, just before noon, at 11.30 a.m., firefighters responded to another call – A chimney of a residential house was on fire in the village of Vincgalis, Giraitės Street, in the municipality of Dotnuva. When the rescuers arrived, the fire caused by soot was quickly extinguished and the premises ventilated. It was found that the one-storey wooden house, 10 metres in size, covered with a tin roof, was not equipped with a smoke detector.
For the third consecutive day
„Market Square“ recalls that grass fires in the district have been recorded on previous days. In Vilainiai district, flames devastated large areas in two days: 2 hectares were burnt in the village of Milžemiai, and in Vilainiai village – in several places, the fire engulfed from a few hectares up to about a hectare of land. Later, the flames raged again near the kindergarten – here about 20 acres were burnt.
Preliminary investigations have been opened into these fires. Officials are urging residents to behave responsibly and not to burn grass, as such fires are not only devastating to the environment, but can also endanger property and life
