The Jonava nitrogen fertiliser plant operated by the corporation "Achema Group" has partially resumed the production of ammonia, which was halted in May, the group announced.
„After a three-month hiatus, the Jonava nitrogen fertilizer plant „Achema“ has resumed the production of its main product – ammonia, by partially restarting one of the two available production units, „ „Achema Group“ has announced.
In mid-May, „Achema“ temporarily halted production in response to the unfavourable market situation – with natural gas prices fluctuating sharply in Europe and cheap products from third countries flooding the market.
Due to the challenges in the natural gas and fertiliser markets, Lithuania's largest natural gas consumer, „Achema“, has been operating at partial capacity since autumn 2021.
According to Rekvizitai.lt, AB „Achema“ made a loss of EUR 11.8 million last year. In 2023, these losses were even higher, amounting to over €47 million.
