It's a golden time for organic rapeseed. And where the state is throwing money down the drain (VIDEO)

The state is underfunding the promotion of organic production among ordinary consumers, and existing measures are failing to deliver results because they are not targeted at the public. This conclusion can be drawn after „Agrobite play“ channel on Mindaugas Petkevičius.

He explained the situation on the Lithuanian organic market, highlighting the main products that are favourable to organic farmers both in terms of price and marketing.

„Organic cereals, especially oats, have and will continue to be in demand. So will rye. Wheat to a lesser extent. But right now the main crop for organic farmers could be oilseed rape, because the price of oilseed rape is going up every year," said Mr Petkevičius, who recommends growing organic oilseed rape.

The average purchase price of organic milk, for its part, is almost the same as that of conventionally produced milk. In the meat sector, the situation is almost unchanged.

On 14 March, the General Reporting Meeting of the members of LEŪA took place to discuss not only the market situation, but also where organic farming in general is heading.
