On Friday, by decision of the company's Board of Directors, Marius Švaikauskas, the CEO of „Via Lietuva“, was dismissed from his position. LRT.lt was the first to report the news.

M. Švaikauskas himself refused to comment on the situation.

„I can't comment now. I just heard it, now. I'm sorry, there will be no comment now," the former head of the organisation told the portal.

In a statement issued by „Via Lietuva“, it was mentioned that the decision was taken in view of the change in the organisational structure and the need for different managerial competences.

„One milestone completed, time to move on. Planning changes for sustainable financing of road infrastructure, updating the strategy for maintenance and development of roads of national significance, as well as improving road infrastructure, requires different managerial competences," the report quotes Rūta Butautaitė Pivoriūnienė, chairwoman of the board of directors of „Via Lietuva“.

„On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Marius Švaikauskas for the work he has done and for laying a solid foundation for the further development of the company“, – she added.

LRT understands that before the board meeting of „Via Lietuva“ on Friday at 13:00, Švaikauskas was offered to terminate his employment by mutual consent, but he refused to do so, claiming that he had not heard any arguments or comments as to why he should leave the company, the source told LRT.

A competition for the position of CEO of AB „Via Lietuva“ is about to be launched. It is stated that Martynas Gedaminskas, Head of the Infrastructure Support and Development Group, will temporarily take over this function until the appointment of a new CEO.
