Recent outbreaks of infectious animal diseases worldwide
The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) publishes up-to-date information on communicable disease cases in different countries.
Bulgaria. An outbreak of avian influenza has been reported & the disease has affected 28,000 birds.
Argentina. A new case of avian influenza has been detected after a gap of more than one year. 30 000 poultry are susceptible. The plan is to cull all laying hens on farms where the virus has been confirmed.Denmark. In the municipality of Herning, the first outbreak of brucellosis in a herd of free-range pigs since 1999 has been confirmed. Two pigs have been diagnosed with the disease, with a further 3 850 possibly affected.
Israel. Outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease recorded: 20 cattle affected, 70 more at risk.
Germany. For the first time since 2017, a case of equine infectious anaemia has been reported. The disease occurred in one horse that was slaughtered. Another 5 horses are at risk.

Outbreaks of swine influenza virus, brucellosis and foot-and-mouth disease in countries indicate an increased risk. Lithuanian poultry and livestock keepers are warned to remain vigilant: ensure strict biosecurity, limit contact with wild animals and unauthorised persons.
