Wild boar and frost are this year's enemies

Asociatyvi nuotr.

So far this year, wolves have not caused major damage to Anykščiai farmers. However, specialists from the Anykščiai District Municipal Administration's Agriculture Department regularly receive reports from farmers about destruction of crops by wild boars and often go to assess the damage.

Frost during the flowering of fruit trees caused damage to orchardists this year. According to Virmantas Velikonis, Head of Agriculture, his department has received several requests from gardeners to assess frost damage. He said that the municipality does not pay compensation to farmers because of frosts, and that the task of the Agriculture Department is only to establish the fact.

Frost impact assessments are required for gardeners who have received project support. Beneficiaries implementing projects financed by the Lithuanian Rural Development Programme and/or participating in the intervention measures of the Strategic Plan for Agriculture and Rural Development 2023-2027 are exempted from the sanctions in case of non-compliance with the commitments undertaken and the requirements laid down in the legislation due to force majeure or exceptional circumstances. Frost is, of course, a force majeure.
