Lithuania still imports more goods than it exports

In December 2024, exports amounted to €2.62 billion and imports to €3.27 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to €1.7 billion. The international trade deficit in goods amounted to €653.3 million, according to the State Data Agency.

Exports fell by 15% in the month (December 2024 vs. November 2024), while imports fell by 7%. The drop in exports was due to a fall in exports of electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (25.6%), furniture (21.4%) and plastics and articles thereof (29.4%).

The decrease in imports was due to a fall in imports of electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (20.2%), mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (11.2%), organic chemicals (56%).

Exports of goods other than mineral products decreased by 17%, imports by 6.2%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 18%, excluding mineral products by 21.5%.

In a year (December 2024 compared to December 2023), exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 4.5%, excluding mineral products – by 0.8%. In 2024 compared to 2023, exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 0.3%, excluding mineral products – increased by 2.6%.

In 2024, exports were mainly to Latvia (11.9%), Poland (9.9%) and Germany (8.7%), while imports came from Poland (14%), Germany (12.4%) and Latvia (8.1%). Exports of Lithuanian origin were mainly to Germany (9.9%), Poland (9.6%), the Netherlands (8.7%), Latvia (7.7%) and the United States (6.8%).

In 2024, the main exports were of mineral products (14.2%), machinery and mechanical equipment, electrical equipment (13.6%), chemical and allied products (11.2%); the main imports were of mineral products (18.9%), machinery and mechanical equipment, electrical equipment (17.5%), chemical and allied products (12.2%). Of the goods of Lithuanian origin, the most exported were mineral products (18.1%), miscellaneous manufactured goods (11.1%), prepared food products, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, tobacco and processed tobacco substitutes (10.5%), machinery and mechanical equipment, electrical equipment (9.1%).
