Panevėžys District declares the largest area of agricultural land in the country

Panevėžys District is a traditional farming region. This is confirmed by this year's declaration of crops and agricultural land data.

Panevėžys District has the highest number of declared agricultural land and other areas in the country – 121 thousand 343 ha (in 2023 – over 109 thousand ha). The second position, as last year, is still held by Kėdainiai District, with a slightly lower – 120 thousand ha of declared land.

The number of fields mapped has increased. This year 32,374 fields have been declared, compared to 28,849 last year.

In 2024, 2,405 declarants completed their declarations, including 2,354 natural persons and 51 legal entities. This is the highest number of legal entities declaring agricultural land in Lithuania.

101 applications were submitted for the Young Farmer Payment and 170 applicants declared via the eGovernment portal.

This year, flax is again grown in Panevėžys district, although the area declared is small - 3.49 ha.

The highest production of flax is in the Lazdijai district – almost 100 ha.

In Panevėžys district, over 5,000 ha of peas are grown this year (4,000 ha in 2023).

Bulses have been declared on 550 ha (374 ha last year).

9,500 ha of arable land under nitrogen-accumulating crops have been declared this year (over 7,000 ha last year).

Grazing land or grassland under 5 years is declared on 3,500 ha (last year: 3,000 ha).

Almost 500 ha of landscape features have been declared this year (last year: 147 ha).
