Seimas tends to support the recognition of the agriculture and food sectors as important for national security.

After deliberations, Parliament on Tuesday approved the government's proposal to amend the National Security Framework Law – all 105 MPs who voted were in favour.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the proposal would ensure that the population would be able to have uninterrupted access to food

in times of emergency or crisis, in the event of a mobilisation, a state of emergency or a martial law.

This would support Lithuania's self-sustaining food supply system, facilitate competitive agricultural development, and ensure the supply of safe, good quality and a wide range of local food products to the market.

According to the Ministry, the new procedure would improve the legal regulation for farmers, ensure increased funding for the sector, and improve farmers' access to energy resources, such as electricity, gas and other raw materials needed for production in crisis situations.
