Techies on utopian visions of government. Where have you seen an electric combine harvester? (VIDEO)

Erikas Bėrontas, President of the Lithuanian Agricultural Machinery Association, says last year was not a successful one for farmers.

„Last year was not a successful year, I would say, not even for agricultural machinery dealers, but in principle for farmers, because our main customer is the farmer. And if the farmer's purchasing power has fallen, it naturally has a very strong impact on the purchase of agricultural machinery, on the renewal of agricultural machinery," says Mr. Berontas, highlighting two main reasons for the decline in the market.

„It is the fall in farmgate prices, especially for cereals. Borrowing has also become expensive and complicated, which has resulted in farmers being unable to borrow, unable to earn, and therefore struggling to keep old machinery," says Mr Beront.

In November and December, for example, in some places, sales of machinery dropped by as much as double because, for example, the National Paying Agency failed to assess farmers' applications promptly.

What does the market for agricultural machinery look like and what lies ahead is the subject of a conversation with E. Bėrontes on the „Agrobitė play“ channel.
