Lithuania and Poland were on the starting line for soybean production at the same time. But the neighbours have moved on and today Poland has grown its soybean acreage to 100,000 hectares. In Lithuania, the crop is grown on only 2,000 hectares.
We talk to Saulius Daniulis, Vice-Chairman of the Lithuanian Organic Farms Association, who is currently the interim head of the organisation, about the subtleties of soya, why it is worth growing and what is holding back the breakthrough.
We also talk about whether the split in the farming community from a dozen years ago can be healed, at least to the extent that farmers competing with each other can at least avoid embarrassment in Brussels.
