M. Rusteika: 50,000 hectares of flattened cereals and payments running into millions

The “VH Lietuva” mutual insurance fund has already paid out more than 1 million euros in insurance claims for crops that have withered and been destroyed by frost this year.

According to Martynas Rusteika, head of “VH Lietuva”, all kinds of insurance risks are occurring due to the vagaries of the weather. “We wouldn’t say the situation in the fields is dramatic at the moment, but since 5 July we have received reports of lodged crops across an area of more than 50,000 hectares of cereal crops,”  – M. Rusteika told the “Agrobitė play” channel during a field day organised by the company.

According to him, reports have been received from some regions of hail damage affecting approximately 5,000 hectares; consequently, as M. Rusteika himself says, experts from the self-insurance fund are currently working non-stop.
