Kelyje Paliūniškis–Vabalninkas įvyko eismo nelaimė: lengvasis automobilis trenkėsi į priešpriešais atvažiuojantį kombainą.

On Wednesday afternoon, a serious traffic accident occurred on the road Paliūniškis–Vabalninkas, near the village of Natiškių (Vabalninkas municipality), on a section of the road under repair, where traffic is controlled by traffic lights. A drunk driver's car crashed so hard into a combine harvester that witnesses could not even recognise the make of the vehicle. The driver was taken to hospital for his injuries.

Car – completely destroyed

According to Akvilė Aleksejeva, Senior Specialist of the Communication Department of the Panevėžys District Chief Police Commissariat, the drunk driver of the car „Opel Signum“, born in 1995, caused the traffic accident – crashed into a combine harvester „Claas Dominator“, driven by a man born in 1961.

A police spokeswoman said that the driver of the car was driving on a section of road under repair when a red traffic light was on. The man was found to be drunk at 1.09 millilitres.

After a large impact with the combine harvester, the driver of the car was pinned in the vehicle – firefighters used hydraulic equipment to extricate the man and handed him over to medics.

The car was so badly damaged that officers arriving at the scene could not immediately identify its make and model. The original information mistakenly identified a completely different – „Volkswagen Golf“ make – car.
