The Welfare State, Farmers and Gold (VIDEO)

The combine harvesters have already rolled out into the fields, and cattle are slowly “pacing” through the pastures – nothing out of the ordinary. It is a routine that never changes, unless the weather briefly disrupts the rhythm of these days.

Meanwhile, in Lithuania, the ‘welfare state’ as politicians like to call it – seeking maximum political returns and public approval – lives from one election to the next, from one opinion poll to the next week’s public opinion surveys.

These are the documents that confirm their power, whilst they exercise that power in other ways. From time to time, scandals, stories of bribery and influence-peddling come to light.

Gediminas Stanišauskas, editor-in-chief of the “Agrobitė play” channel, spoke this time in an informal setting with Vaclovas Jacikas, the head of “Agrobond” and a businessman.

How might agriculture change with the arrival of the new minister, Kęstutis Mažeika, and how might this be linked to the story of Saulius Skvernelis and, ultimately, how we all live in this “welfare state”.
