Tragedy at ‘Lifosa’ shocks Kėdainiai – suspected suicide (updated)

Thursday morning in the Kėdainiai industrial area began with shocking news. The Emergency Services Control Centre received a report that a man with a gunshot wound had been found on the premises of AB “Lifosa”. Officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident, but preliminary information suggests the man took his own life.
Emergency services mobilised

Information about the incident at the factory site on Juodkiškio Street reached the emergency services early in the morning. According to the Emergency Response Centre, the call was recorded at 7.29 am. The caller reported that a bleeding man had been found on the company’s premises, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Police officers have also confirmed the incident.

“At 7.33 am today, a report was received that a man born in 1981 had possibly taken his own life at a company on Juodkiškio Street in Kėdainiai,” – police representatives reported.

Medical teams and police patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene, but upon arrival, the man was pronounced dead.

Expresses condolences

Meanwhile, AB “Lifosa” expresses its condolences to the employee’s family and colleagues. “We can confirm that an employee died at the company today. Emergency services and police officers are currently at the scene, and all necessary investigative measures are being carried out to determine the causes of the accident.

The company states that it is cooperating with law enforcement agencies and providing all necessary information; however, in order not to prejudice the official investigation, it is not providing any further details regarding the circumstances of the incident.

Investigations launched

Representatives of the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat state that an investigation is currently underway.„Officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death“,– added police communications officers.

The State Labour Inspectorate has also launched an investigation, but is not providing any further details.

Initially, AB “Lifosa” denied the reports

“Agrobitė” on Thursday morning. Police spokeswoman Odeta Vaitkevčienė stated that a man born in 1981 had been found at the company with a gunshot wound. A pre-trial investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.

According to “Agrobitė” sources, the deceased man may have held a managerial position. However, this information has not been officially confirmed, and AB “Lifosa” declined to comment on the possible tragedy and denied it.
