The purchase price of natural milk in Lithuania has increased by almost 24% this year.
In the first ten months of this year, the average buying-in price for natural milk in Lithuania was 51.35 cents per kilogram, 23.8% higher than in the same period last year, according to data from the European Union's (EU) Dairy Market Observatory (DMO).
Similar trends are also observed across the EU. According to the MMO, in January and October this year, the average Community farm-gate milk price stood at 53.19 cents per kilogram, up 12.5% on a year ago (47.29 cents).
According to analysts at Rabobank, milk farm gate prices in Europe reached record highs in late 2024 and early this year due to limited supply and higher production costs, especially energy and feed. In addition, global milk production grew more slowly than expected at the time, which supported price increases in the short term.Experts note that the sluggish consumption seen in the market in the second half of the year and the increasing global milk supply could lead to a correction in prices.
