'Burden reduction' returns tangible losses to farmers (VIDEO)
Decisions taken in the cabinet come back to farmers in very concrete losses. This was also the subject of a meeting between Agriculture Minister Andrius Palionis and journalists in Vilnius on Monday.
„Agrobite play“ the channel identified only two decisions taken by the government that make farming unattractive, even though there are a lot of them.
For example, the State Inspectorate for Territorial Planning and Construction, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Environment, has decided to change the purpose of buildings in the State Register Centre.
Farmers' grain warehouses have suddenly become commercial and farmers are now under attack from the State Tax Inspectorate (STI) demanding higher property tax. All this did not exist before.
On another subject, from the beginning of this year, potato growers who previously worked on their own farm under the National Quality Product (NQP) scheme have been obliged to buy 30% certified seed. One farmer had been running such a NQP farm for 15 years, but after the "cabinet change" he switched to the NQP system and now grows potatoes conventionally. How else could he buy €140 000 worth of certified seed potatoes every year, when the NKP system reimburses only €39 000. What kind of a dumbass would you have to be to take such a loss on your farm?", the farmer wonders.
See how the Minister of Agriculture Andrius Palionis commented on both situations in this „Agrobite play“ video.
