Palionis urges cereal farmers to add more value by raising pigs (VIDEO)
Agriculture Minister Andrius Palionis says cereal farming is becoming less attractive, so crop farms could switch to pig farming, for example.
"We have to recognise a very simple thing, and it is probably the situation that we have to think about how to create more added value per hectare. The time when cereals used to generate income is probably over. We have to think further – how to create more added value with that grain", – said Minister Palionis.
In November, the Minister said, cereal growers could benefit from the call for support for the measure „Investments in agricultural holdings“. He said that cereal farmers had €3.8 million left, but that a separate call would only have annoyed people. The ministry has channelled the funds into beef cattle farming, where pig farming is also included.„There will be a possibility for grain farmers to come with an additional commitment to raise pigs“, Minister Palionis said.
„Agrobite play“ the channel recalls that this call was made during a breakfast meeting with journalists on Monday, hosted by Mr Palionis.
