The farm-gate milk price in Lithuania has increased by 17% over the year.

The average buying-in price for natural raw milk in Lithuania in September this year exceeded 50 cents per kilogram and was 17% higher than at the same time last year, according to preliminary data from the European Union (EU) Milk Market Observatory (MMO).

Compared to this August, the average natural milk buying price rose by more than 2% in the first month of autumn. According to the MMO, the milk price in Lithuania has risen twice as fast as the EU average this year.

Similar trends have been recorded in other Baltic countries. In Latvia, the average farm-gate milk price in September was 48.1 cents, up 21% compared to the same period last year. 

In Estonia, meanwhile, a kilogram of natural milk cost 15% more than last year at 48.8 cents, according to MMO data.
