"Danone recalls infant formula in several European countries

French food giant „Danone“ has extended its infant formula recall to Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Switzerland, the company and national health authorities announced.

„Danone“ and several other manufacturers have been recalling the products, which may be contaminated with toxins that can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, in more than 60 countries since December.

According to the authorities, several hundred batches of formula are affected by the latest „Danone“ recall, including more than 120 batches of „Aptamil“ and „Milumil“ in Austria and Germany, and 119 batches of „Gallia“ and „Bledilait“ in France.

„Danone“ said it was carrying out the recall „in line with updated cereulido“ guidelines, and urged customers to return recalled products already purchased to stores.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on Monday drastically lowered the maximum level of cereulide in products.
