Milk market: cautious optimism persists, prices at their highest in 2 years

The "Global Dairy Trade" (GDT) index was almost unchanged in the last trading session, losing only 4 points. The GDT index fell by 0.3% overall, stopping at 1 160 points. The previous trading session saw a small rise, which led to a moderate optimism about the future. The situation after this trading session is also unchanged – dairy producers and processors are looking forward to a rise in the index.

This would lead to even higher expectations for dairy prices, as the whole dairy market is waiting to see if the price values, which are the highest in the last 2 years, can be maintained.

Cheddar cheese (+4.2%) and buttermilk (+0.3%) appreciated in the last trading session of GDT. All other dairy products either remained at the same price level or became cheaper. For example, whole milk flour did not show any change in price, while Mozzarella cheese fell by 8.2% and lactose by 5.8%.

GDT trading sessions are held twice a month.

„Global Dairy Trade“ trading floor is owned by the agricultural cooperative „Fonterra“. Trends in the Oceania area reach Europe in about 1.5-2 months.
