Milk purchases in Latvia almost unchanged
In Latvia, 200.12 thousand tonnes of raw milk were purchased in the first quarter of the year, 0.2% more than in the same period last year, according to data released by the Latvian Agricultural Data Centre.
In January, 68.43 thousand tonnes of milk were purchased, in February - 62.21 thousand tonnes, and in March - 69.48 thousand tonnes.
Only organic milk was bought 9.9% less than a year ago in the first three months of the year – 8.21 thousand tonnes.
The number of dairy cows in the country fell by 4.1% to 112.86 thousand in the year to the end of last month, of which those to be used for milk production fell by 2.7% to 104.07 thousand.
