39 wolves are hunted in Switzerland in a few weeks. Farmers say this is not enough
In recent weeks, 39 wolves have been hunted in Switzerland, helping to manage the population of these predators.
According to foreign media, there are currently 35 wolf families in Switzerland. The Federal Office for the Environment has granted permission to hunt a total of 8 families and the cantons are making good use of this opportunity.
At least 39 wolves have been shot in Graubünden, Valais, Vaud and St. Gallen in recent weeks.
In Switzerland, the hunting of wolves is allowed from 1 September 2024 to 31 January 2025. The Swiss Farmers' Union (SBV) has welcomed the decision, but the farmers' organisation says it would be worth increasing the quota for hunting large predators. Last season, 61 wolves were hunted in the country.
