Major exporters include companies in the agricultural sector

Manufacturing, transport and agricultural trade companies were among the biggest Lithuanian exporters last year, the "Verslo žinios" portal reported on Friday.

In the list of the biggest exporters, compiled by vz.lt on the basis of the 2023 VAT declarations submitted to the State Tax Inspectorate (STI), the refining and importing company Orlen Lietuva“ is in the first place, having exported mainly to the Baltic States and Poland, and also increasing its exports to Ukraine.

its sales to Ukraine grew by almost 69% to 624,000 tonnes last year, to Poland by 52.6% to 688,000 tonnes, and it exported more than 2 million tonnes to Estonia and Latvia. The company's total exports fell by 12% last year.

The second largest exporter last year was Vilnius-based biotechnology company „Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics“, which sold mainly in North America (€447.9 million), Europe (€283.3 million) and Asia (€81.6 million). Its total exports fell by 42% over the year.

Third on the list is „Girteka Group“ controlled by „Girteka Europe West“, which has Germany, the Netherlands, Italy at the top of its service export geography, with a 20-fold increase in total exports (which may have been driven by the group's restructuring). Related to „Girteka“ is „Everest“ (formerly „Girteka Logistics“) in 10th place – its exports dropped by 72%. 

Fourth on the list – one of the largest Lithuanian and Latvian grain exporters – „Akola group“ company „Linas Agro“ – its exports dropped by 43 percent last year, Nigeria, Spain and Germany were the biggest markets, while „Agrorodeo“ was fifth (down 20.5%), exporting grain to 55 countries, mainly Nigeria, Portugal and Latvia.

Ramūnas Karbauskis's „Agrokoncerno“ group company „Agrokoncerno grūdai“ ranked 6th (total exports grew by 1.9%).It was followed by Jonava-based nitrogen fertilizer producer „Achema“ (down 52.5%), which exported to France, Poland, Germany, Great Britain, Benelux and Scandinavia, Ukraine, South America, Australia, and African countries. 

The eighth largest exporter last year was the fish products trading company „Vičiūnai ir Ko“ (up by 5.7% yoy).), which sells most of its products in Italy, Germany and France, the ninth – freight forwarding company „Bleiras Logistics“ (grew 3.6 times) – its most important markets were Germany, Italy and France.
