A survey of Baltic citizens shows that geopolitical tensions are the biggest concern in Lithuania, with 56% of respondents worried about them. Also, 45% of Lithuanians say they are worried about the rising cost of food and everyday expenses.

While in Estonia and Latvia, price rises remain a major concern for 66% and 49% respectively, according to the survey.

Economist Alexander Izgorodin believes that these results reflect both global and local tensions. Lithuania has so far weathered the economic challenges of recent years relatively better, which has led to a greater focus on day-to-day spending in neighbouring countries.

A survey initiated by Citadele“ Bank also showed that 26% of Lithuanians, 24% of Latvians and 9% of Estonians are worried about their health. 15% of Lithuanians and Latvians and 26% of Estonians are worried about personal or family finances. Almost a tenth of Lithuanians are worried about fluctuations in the financial markets, while 5% of those surveyed in Lithuania feel tense about job stability.

Lithuanians are also more worried about climate change than their neighbours, with 8% of respondents saying so (4% in Estonia and 2% in Latvia).

Residents were also asked about their behaviour in stressful or uncertain situations. In Lithuania, 46% of respondents said they are cutting spending and saving more, 41% are trying to concentrate on what they can control, and 12% said they are not taking any action. In Estonia, saving is even more popular, with 57% of respondents reporting it, and in Latvia, 33%.

The survey was conducted online in April 2025 by the research agency „Norstat“. At least 1,000 people aged 18 to 74 were surveyed in each Baltic country.
