On Saturday, the US imposes new tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada
President Donald Trump will impose tariffs on three of the U.S.'s biggest trading partners - Canada, Mexico and China - on Saturday, the White House said, raising concerns about global trade.
D. Trump reiterated plans on Saturday to impose 25% tariffs on neighbours Canada and Mexico if they do not curb the flow of illegal migrants crossing the US border and the deadly drug fentanyl.
It is also threatening to impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods on that day, also mainly on drugs.
„The February 1st deadline that President Trump announced in a statement a few weeks ago remains in effect,“ White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt told reporters on Friday.
She added that the flow of the illegal drug fentanyl remains a problem.
Fentanyl is many times more potent than heroin and causes tens of thousands of overdose deaths each year.
Beijing has rejected claims that it is contributing to the deadly trade, while close US ally Canada has retorted that less than one per cent of undocumented migrants and fentanyl are entering the US through its northern border.
