Shots rang out at Donald Trump's campaign event in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening at 18.15 local time (1.15 pm EDT). According to video footage, the former President suffered an ear injury and was bleeding. Security guards escorted the Republican off the stage.
D. Trump later confirmed that his ear had been injured by a gunshot. "I was hit by a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear," he wrote on the platform „Truth Social“ he founded.
According to the „Bloomberg“ news agency, Mr Trump was released from hospital a few hours later.
The US Secret Service said the alleged shooter fired several shots in the direction of the scene. He was "neutralised" and died. The death of the alleged shooter was confirmed by a law enforcement official.
The Secret Service responded quickly and Mr Trump is safe, the report said. One spectator at the event was killed and two others were seriously injured. The incident is under investigation.
According to American media, the shots fired at Mr Trump are being investigated as an "attempted assassination attempt".
A witness sitting behind Trump told CNN that a dead participant died after being shot in the back of the head, while one person who was seriously injured was shot in the arm.

Secret Service agents rushed the stage to cover the former president. Supported by guards, he then left the stage. Mr Trump raised his fist and shouted "Fight back". His supporters responded with „USA, USA, USA“.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified the person who fired the shots at Donald Trump's campaign event. He is 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Pennsylvania.
