Pure-bred breeding programmes will have to meet new criteria
Breeding organisations must review, revise if necessary and submit for approval breeding programmes for pure-bred breeding animals and for hybrid breeding pigs. The previously approved programmes will expire on 1 December this year. However, organisations are invited to submit their programmes to the Agency before the deadline, as the programmes will still be assessed and approved by the Commission.
Organisations that are late will not be eligible for State aid for breeding in 2025, so it is important not to delay.
Breeding programmes for pure-bred breeding animals and hybrid breeding pigs will have to comply with new criteria – the results to be achieved will have to be linked to the objectives of the breeding programme and will have to be measurable and quantifiable, i.e. objective and measurable indicators will have to be established. The Agriculture Agency will evaluate the implementation of the breeding programmes on the basis of the criteria, indicators and their values set out in the breeding programmes.
All the requirements for breeding programmes are laid down in the Rules of Procedure for the recognition of breeding organisations for pure-bred breeding animals and hybrid breeding pigs and for the approval of their breeding programmes for pure-bred breeding animals.
Reviewed programmes must be submitted to the Agency. The submitted programmes will be evaluated and approved by a commission consisting of representatives of the Agricultural Agency, the Lithuanian University of Health Science, Vilnius College and the Chamber of Agriculture.
In order to assist breeding organisations, the Agricultural Agency provides advice on updating programmes. The Breeding Supervision Unit can be contacted at any time using the contact details on the Agriculture Agency's website.
