Dairy prices fall on world exchanges in September
Dairy prices on the main world exchanges have fallen significantly in the first weeks of September, according to data from CLAL, a dairy industry consultancy.
On average, prices of dairy products such as cheese, butter and milk powder fell by 4% in the US market and by 2% in the European Union (EU), according to the latest data.
At the same time, price indexes for almost all products except cheese fell on the global trading platform "Global Dairy Trade".
Experts at the Dutch bank Rabobank said the fall in dairy prices was due to the growing global supply of milk and sluggish consumption. For these reasons, according to the experts, farm-gate milk prices in Europe, including Lithuania, may also fall.
According to the Commission, EU dairy exports increased earlier this year on the back of high prices, which may have had a positive impact on farmers' incomes. The European Commission forecasts that EU milk deliveries will increase by almost 0.2% in 2025.
