A wave of bankruptcies of famous restaurants and long-established companies swept through Lithuania this year
The number of bankruptcies in Lithuania this year was not exceptional, but well-known catering establishments and companies that have been in business for decades have gone out of business, according to the 2025 Bankruptcy Survey of the credit risk company „Creditreform Lietuva“.
„The year has not been exceptional in terms of the volume of business insolvencies and (...) did not exceed the results of the previous three years, but compared to 2022–2024, there was a significant increase in the number of bankruptcies in the financial and insurance sector, as well as 2025 was notable for the number of bankruptcies of well-known companies, especially those operating in the catering sector, –, – said in a statement „Creditreform Lithuania“ director Saulius Žilinskas.
According to the data of 18 December, 951 companies have been registered for bankruptcy this year, mainly in retail trade (223), construction (221) and manufacturing (106).
According to „Creditreform“, this year saw the closure of „Jurgis and the Dragon“, „Brooklyn Brothers“ and „Detroit Sisters“;Beetroot and Scent“, owner of „Sugamour“ dessert shop „Sweet Coffee“, „Mollusca“ restaurants, „Seven Burgers“ operator of „Drama Burger“ burger restaurants.
The restaurant „Vandens malūnas“ in Vilnius, „Vandens malūnas“, „Pizzeria „Bella Italia“ in Kaunas, –Pizzeria „Bella Italia“, „Pas Stanley“, „Pas Stanley“ in Klaipėda, – „Far from the Classics“, „Skandalas“, in Panevėžys – „Čili pizza“, the company that franchised the restaurant „Ponas“, and other catering establishments throughout Lithuania.
In addition, the sewing company „Šatrija“, the advertising company „Dizrega“, the stationery company „Alma“, the PR and communications company „Berta And“ have all gone bankrupt;, wire manufacturer „Mechel Nemunas“, fruit and berry trading company „Baltijos uoga“, Vilnius brewery „Leičių bravoras“, transport company „Lekpas“, and others.
The oldest companies that went bankrupt were „Galaka“, a logistics company that had been operating since November 1990, „Galaka“, the Pest Control Council, which was launched in December that year, and „Ranstata“, a construction company founded at the same time.
According to „Creditreform“, as recently as last year, some of the companies that went bankrupt „had reached millions of euros in turnover, made hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits, employed hundreds of workers, represented well-known foreign companies, and had a large number of loyal customers“.
