European Union agricultural output prices rose by an average of 5.6% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, Eurostat said on Tuesday.

The annual price increase was recorded for the third consecutive quarter of the year, after a year and a half of decline or stagnation.

Meanwhile, prices of goods used in agricultural production (inputs not related to investment, such as energy, fertilisers or feed) rose by 0.4 percent in April-June.

Of the main agricultural commodities, eggs (27.8%), fruit (21.1%) and milk (13.3%) appreciated the least year-on-year, while olive oil (39.9%) and potatoes (29.1%) fell the most sharply.

Of the non-investment costs, fertilisers and soil improvers increased the most (5.6%), as well as veterinary fees (3.3%), while the most significant decrease was observed for energy and lubricants (5.8%).

Agricultural output prices increased over the year in all EU countries except Greece, where they fell by 0.1%. The fastest price increases were recorded in Latvia (21.8%), Ireland (21.1%) and Luxembourg (18.4%).
