Nausėda stabs Russia: attempts to impose a blockade in the Black Sea have a negative impact on global food security
Russian military action against Ukrainian ports and grain storage facilities is putting the world's food supply at risk, President Gitanas Nausėda said as he participated remotely in the third International Food Security Summit.
„These attacks, together with the attempted blockade in the Black Sea, are having a negative impact on global food security. And yet, despite all Russia's violent efforts, Ukraine remains a reliable supplier. President Volodymyr Zelensky's "Grain from Ukraine" initiative has already helped provide food for millions of people in the most vulnerable countries," the report quoted the country's leader as saying.
In his speech to the participants of the meeting, he stressed that Lithuania strongly supports Ukraine's efforts to maintain the Black Sea transport corridor and will continue to provide it with all possible support. There is no other way, he said, to overcome Russian military threats than for Ukraine to regain full control over its land and sea.„Today, Ukraine's victory and Russia's defeat are essential conditions for global peace, stability and food security. Together we can achieve this," said the country's leader.
The International Food Security Summit was first held in Kiev in November 2022, after Russia launched a large-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. More than 30 countries and international organisations have joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "Grain from Ukraine" initiative to help Ukrainian grain reach food-insecure populations in Africa and Asia. Lithuania also supports the initiative.
