Alternative for Germany prepares to abandon the EU Green Deal and the CAP
In Germany, the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is campaigning to criticise the EU's "insane" regulation of climate policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, which he plans to scrap in the event of victory.
AfD's election manifesto states that it would scrap the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), replacing it with a national agricultural policy that takes into account economic realities and the interests of EU member states and their farmers.
AfD believes that countries should have autonomy in agriculture to ensure food security for their citizens. It also stipulates that farmers should be paid an "appropriate and performance-related remuneration".
The Party also believes that the idea of climate change has been „politically engineered“.
Under the guise of so-called climate protection policy, lobbying interests have turned against sensible environmental and agricultural policies tailored to the needs of the regions,“ says the AfD's election manifesto.
The AfD is a highly conservative, nationalist, Eurosceptic German political party, often described as populist.
The AfD has its strongest support in the eastern German states. Elections in Germany will take place on 23 February 2025.
