Haribo gum withdrawn from sale in the Netherlands due to cannabis
German candy maker „Haribo“ withdrew one of its gummies from sale in the Netherlands on Thursday because it was found to contain cannabis, and several people, including children, have reported ailments.
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) said that only three packages of „Happy Cola F!ZZ“ gummies were affected, but as a precautionary measure all the gummies were withdrawn from sale.
„There are packages of sweets in the market that may cause health problems such as dizziness if eaten,“ says a statement issued by the NVWA.
NVWA spokeswoman Saida Ahjad told AFP news agency that cannabis was found in the sweets.
„The police reported this to the NVWA after several people, children and adults, became ill after eating cola bottles,“ she stated, referring to the cola bottle-shaped gummies.
AFP has contacted „Haribo“ for comment.
S. Ahyad stated that the police are currently investigating how cannabis may have been present in the sweets.
„After consultation with the NVWA and as is usual in such cases, „Haribo“ has issued a safety warning“, – an NVWA spokeswoman stated.
