Latvia has cut alcohol production by 15.4% in 2024.
Latvia produced 44.17 million litres of alcoholic beverages excluding beer last year, down 15.4% from the previous year, the State Revenue Service said, citing excise duty collection data.
In absolute alcohol terms, production fell by 17.3 percent.
The consumption of alcoholic beverages in Latvia (retail sales volumes) decreased by 3.9 per cent to 64.158 million litres last year.
In this respect, demand for vodka decreased by 4.2% to 11.057 million litres, whisky by 7.2% to 2.627 million litres, cognac and brandy by 5.4% to 2.777 million litres, liqueur by 1.4% to 1.481 million litres, and fortified wine by 20.5% to 1.481 million litres. The share of spirits in the total volume of alcoholic beverages increased by 20.5% to 1.525 million litres, sparkling wine by 5.3% to 6.886 million litres, alcoholic cocktails by 3.1% to 3.533 million litres, while the share of ordinary wine increased by 0.2% to 14.105 million litres and the share of fermented beverages, other than beer, decreased by 1.4% to 13.637 million litres.
