Egg prices in the US make you gasp
In the US, eggs have become a luxury item. Buyers are now paying a dollar for an egg.
As reported by the New York Post, consumers in New York and New Jersey are now paying up to 12 dollars for 12 eggs. And no one expects prices to come down in the run-up to Easter; there is still a severe shortage on the market.
According to a New York website, prices are blood-curdling because they are reminiscent of the late 19th century California Gold Rush or the Great Depression.
Analysts estimate that the United States needs around 180 million extra eggs to fill Easter shopping baskets, with another 30 million eggs needed for Easter. Egg imports are hampered by the trade war and are likely to continue to increase in price in stores.
