Livestock 2025: focus on pets and innovation (VIDEO)

The specialised exhibition „Livestock 2025“ has opened its doors in Kaunas district, traditionally bringing together all those interested in the progress of modern animal husbandry. Although this year, due to the threat of contagious diseases, there are no cattle, sheep or goats on show, visitors will find an unprecedentedly large display of breeding horses and rabbits, a rich educational programme of interesting seminars, a traditional crafts and planting fair, and local producers selling their products.

„We are on the verge of great challenges, as we know we are encouraged to make our pets feel better and happier, but let's not forget that this is just one component. The other component is the environmental objectives, the reduction of greenhouse gases, the ambitions that sometimes push us, producers and consumers alike, towards a higher cost price and the question of what will happen next. Today, the communicable disease situation has proved once again that diseases have no borders. So we do not have some animal species here, which is yet another threat that forces us to review the achievements of scientists, the innovations, the possible solutions. The Ministry of Agriculture not only contributes to agriculture in Lithuania as a whole, we try to ensure that targeted support reaches the target groups, scientists, rural areas, to keep the countryside alive“, - said Dr. Arūnas Rutkauskas, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, at the opening of the exhibition.
