The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) forecasts that, despite uncertainties related to global crises as well as outbreaks of various animal diseases, global raw milk production is expected to increase by 1.4% in 2025 compared to 2024 (to 992.3 million tonnes).

FAO forecasts a slight increase in milk production in Europe in 2025 (+0.6%). The main factor is the increase in the production of the raw material in the EU. Different volumes of milk supply in different EU countries are expected to lead to a small (+0.4%) overall increase. In Belarus and the United Kingdom, milk production is also expected to increase (+2.8% and +2.6% respectively).

FAO also forecasts a 0.7% increase in the Russian Federation compared to 2024, while in Ukraine milk production is expected to be 1.0% lower than in 2024.

FAO experts predict that in 2025, milk production will increase by 1.5%. The American continent will produce almost 3.2 million tonnes more milk than in 2024.

Milk production growth will be concentrated in South America, where milk production is expected to be 2.9% higher than last year.

„Agrobite“ recalls that it is with the Mercosur bloc of South American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) that the European Commission promises to sign a more liberal trade agreement this month, a move that has been the subject of much criticism from the European farming community.

FAO forecasts a significant increase in milk production in all major milk producing countries - Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay. Milk production is also expected to increase in Central America, mainly due to Mexico, where FAO forecasts a 2.4% increase. Production of this commodity is also expected to increase in North America. The FAO forecasts that in 2025, the milk production will increase by 1.5%. US milk production will increase by 0.5% (to 103.0 million tonnes) in 2025. In Canada, milk production is expected to be 1.8% higher this year than in 2024.

2025 In Oceania, milk production is expected to follow a mixed pattern, with increases in New Zealand offsetting declines in Australia. According to FAO forecasts, milk production in Oceania is expected to increase by 1.3% (to 30.6 million tonnes) compared to 2024. In New Zealand, the increase is mainly due to higher farm-gate milk prices and favourable milk production conditions. FAO expects New Zealand to produce 2.8% more milk in 2025 compared to 2024 (around 22.2 million t in total). In Australia, however, a 2.5% drop in milk production is forecast for this year (to 8.5 million t).
